MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team (0-3-5 overall, 0-3-2 NSIC) opened their conference weekend with a 2-2 tie against St. Cloud State (2-4-2, 1-2-2) on Friday afternoon at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
The Mustangs struck first as
Alex Lotts put a pass from
Selena Prolic into the back of the net inside the first minute. SCSU scored the equalizer in the 31st minute when Gracie Parsons scored form 35 yards out.
SMSU broke the tie in the 77th minute when
Madi Foutz put a redirected corner kick off the left post, sneaking past the goalie and taking a 2-1 lead, but SCSU countered in the 84
th. After a Mustang foul just outside the box, Brooke Quam sent a free kick onto the foot of Jenna Dominguez, who brought the match to its final score.
Each team took nine shots, with SCSU putting six shots on net to the four of SMSU.
Rachel Hicks made four saves in goal, while Lotts (2), Foutz (1), and
Emily Maciel (1), accounted for the Mustang shots on net.
The Mustangs have tied five times this season, the most in school history.
SMSU returns home on Sunday, taking on Minnesota Duluth at 1 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
