ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's swimming & diving team hit the pool to start the 2022-23 season on Friday afternoon recording first-place finishes in six of 10 events in the Northern State Relay Meet
SMSU defeated Northern State, 178-124, and earned a 184-112 victory over Concordia-St. Paul.
Maija Geier,
Heather Arlen, and
Juliana Villa opened the winning for the Mustangs, taking the 3x100 yard backstroke relay with a time of 3:08.22.
Ella Swanson,
Addi Schroeder,
Olivia Sholl followed up the victory with a win of their own, taking the 3x100 yard breaststroke relay in 3:40.63.
SMSU would go on to win the 800-yard freestyle relay, as
Quincie Klein,
Elayna Geiser, Villa, and
MacKenzie Kallevig finished with a time of 8:36.43. Schroeder, Geier, Kallevig, and Klein took the 500-yard freestyle relay at 5:03.25, while also winning the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.58.
The Mustangs rounded out the relays in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Kallevig,
Grace Busch, Villa, and Geier closed their night with a win at 3:46.31.
SMSU will host its annual Brown & Gold Dual on Saturday, Oct. 1, with a 1 p.m. start time in the newly revamped Don Palm Natatorium.
