SMSU soccer looks to bounce back this weekend with a pair of road matches

THIS WEEK 
• The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (1-9-1, 1-5-1 NSIC) hits the road for matches against Concordia-St. Paul (6-3-3, 4-3-1 NSIC) at 7 p.m. on Friday and Winona State (4-5-1, 3-5 NSIC) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.    

LAST WEEK 
• The Mustangs suffered a 5-1 loss to then-No. 12. Minnesota State on Friday.  
• SMSU fell to Sioux Falls 3-1 on Sunday, after outshooting the Cougars by 10 shots.   

ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE  
• Junior forward Haley Mason has netted three goals to support the offense and posted 12 shots on goal.     
Selena Prolic, Kylie Peters, and Malorie Maderak each tallied one goal thus far in the season. 
• Senior forward Dare Kroeten has tallied one goal and one assist for the Mustangs this season.       
• Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Hicks has recorded a total of 72 saves this season with two shutouts and 2.13 goals against average. 
• Freshman goalkeeper, Stella Litzen got the start on Sunday and has recorded a total of eight saves with 3.00 goals against average.  

SERIES HISTORY 
• SMSU and Concordia-St. Paul meet for the 27th time in program history with CSP holding a 14-11-1 advantage over the Mustangs.  
• The two teams last played on Oct. 15, 2023, with CSP earning a 2-0 victory in Marshall, Minn. 
• SMSU's last win in the series happened in St. Paul on Sept. 19, 2015, earning a 1-0 victory over the Golden Bears. 
• SMSU and Winona State meet for the 38th time in program history with WSU holding a 32-2-4 advantage over the Mustangs.  
• The two teams last met on Oct. 13, 2023, with SMSU earning a 1-0 victory in Marshall, Minn.  

SCOUTING CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL 
• Steve Bellis enters his 13th season as the head coach of Concordia-St. Paul. 
• The Golden Bears are 6-3-3 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference following a 2-1 loss against Augustana and a 3-1 victory over Wayne State last weekend.  
• Sammy Ponsonby leads the Golden Bears offense with four goals, one assist and 11 shots on goal. 
• Amaya O'Hearn supports the CSP offense with three goals and eight assists. 
• CSP goalkeeper, Sydney Potter has recorded a total of 20 saves this season with five shutouts and 0.53 goals against average.      

SCOUTING WINONA STATE  
• Delaney Marier enters her first season as the head coach of Winona State. 
• The Warriors are 4-5-1 overall and 3-5 in conference following a 1-0 victory over USF and a 1-0 loss against then-No. 12 Minnesota State last weekend.  
• Catheryn Hudak leads the Warriors' offense with two goals and six shots on goal. 
• Jacey Sturek supports the WSU offense with four assists and eight shots on goal.   
• WSU goalkeeper, Alyson Jumper has recorded a total of 43 saves with 1.22 goals against average.    

HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW  
Clay Glasgow is in his third season as head coach and has a record of 10-27-9 overall, including 10-20-6 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.  
• Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.  
• During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons. 

MUSTANG HISTORY  
• SMSU is in its 29th season of soccer in 2024 and 28th season of competition (2020 was canceled).  
• SMSU has compiled an all-time record of 164-305-38, including 119-175-27 in NSIC games.  
• SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  
• SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
