SMSU soccer hosts St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth for final home weekend of the regular season

THIS WEEK 
• The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (1-11-1, 1-7-1 NSIC) hosts St. Cloud State (8-2-4, 5-1-4 NSIC) on Friday at 5 p.m. and Minnesota Duluth (2-10-1, 2-7-1 NSIC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. for its final home games of the 2024 season.   

LAST WEEK 

• The Mustangs suffered a 1-0 loss to Concordia-St. Paul on Friday.  

• SMSU fell to Winona State 2-1 on Sunday.   

ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE  

• Junior forward Haley Mason has netted three goals to support the offense and posted 13 shots on goal.     

Emma Dahnert, Kylie Peters, and Malorie Maderak each tallied one goal thus far in the season. 

• Senior forward Selena Prolic has recorded one goal and one assist with12 shots on goal.   

• Senior forward Dare Kroeten has tallied one goal and one assist for the Mustangs this season.       

• Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Hicks has recorded a total of 88 saves this season with two shutouts and 2.00 goals against average. 

SERIES HISTORY 

• SMSU and St. Cloud State meet for the 30th time in program history with SCSU holding a 15-10-4 advantage over the Mustangs.  

• The two teams last played on Oct. 22, 2023, with SMSU earning a 1-0 victory in St. Cloud, Minn. 

• SCSU's last win in the series happened in St. Cloud on Oct. 21, 2018, earning a 2-0 victory over the Mustangs. 

• SMSU and Minnesota Duluth meet for the 33rd time in program history with UMD holding a 25-7 advantage over the Mustangs.  

• The two teams last met on Oct. 20, 2023, with UMD earning a 2-1 victory in Duluth, Minn.  

SCOUTING ST. CLOUD STATE 

• Gretta Macdonald enters her 11th season as the head coach of St. Cloud State. 

• The Huskies are 8-2-4 overall and 5-1-4 in the conference following a 4-0 victory MSU Moorhead and a 2-1 victory over Northern State last weekend.  

• Ellie Primerano leads the Huskies offense with six goals, two assists and 12 shots on goal. 

• Linsey Trapino supports the SCSU offense with four goals and two assists. 

• SCSU goalkeeper, Meriel Orham has recorded a total of 42 saves this season with five shutouts and 0.64 goals against average.      

SCOUTING MINNESOTA DULUTH 

• Greg Cane enters his 31st season as the head coach of Minnesota Duluth. 

• The Bulldogs are 2-10-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference following a 2-1 loss against Northern State and 2-1 victory over MSU Moorhead last weekend.  

• Anna Tobias leads the Bulldogs' offense with four goals, one assist and 16 shots on goal. 

• Gwendolyn Lilly supports the UMD offense with three goals, one assist and six shots on goal.   

• UMD goalkeeper, Kaycee Chavez has recorded a total of 74 saves with 2.18 goals against average.    

HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW  

Clay Glasgow is in his third season as head coach and has a record of 10-29-9 overall, including 10-22-6 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.  

• Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.  

• During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons. 

MUSTANG HISTORY  

• SMSU is in its 29th season of soccer in 2024 and 28th season of competition (2020 was canceled).  

• SMSU has compiled an all-time record of 164-307-38, including 119-177-27 in NSIC games.  

• SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  

• SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
