SMSU soccer with a pair of road matches this weekend against MSU Moorhead and Northern State

THIS WEEK 
• The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (1-12-2, 1-8-2 NSIC) is on the road with a pair of matches against MSU Moorhead (1-12-2, 1-9-1 NSIC) on Friday at 3 p.m. and Northern State (6-5-4, 5-3-3 NSIC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. 

LAST WEEK 
• The Mustangs suffered a 1-0 loss to St. Cloud State on Friday.  
• Minnesota Duluth's late goal forced a 1-1 with SMSU on Sunday.   

ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE  
• Junior forward Haley Mason has netted three goals to support the offense and posted 16 shots on goal. 
• Sophomore midfielder Malorie Maderak has recorded two goals with five shots on goal.     
• Senior defender Emma Dahnert has tallied one goal thus far in the season. 
• Senior forward Selena Prolic has recorded one goal and one assist with12 shots on goal.   
Dare Kroeten, Kylie Peters has each tallied one goal and one assist for the Mustangs this season.       
• Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Hicks has recorded a total of 107 saves this season with two shutouts and 1.83 goals against average. 

SERIES HISTORY 
• SMSU and MSU Moorhead meet for the 33rd time in program history with the Mustangs holding a 15-14-3 advantage over the Dragons.  
• The two teams last played on Oct. 29, 2023, with SMSU earning a 2-0 victory in Marshall, Minn. 
• MSUM's last win in the series happened in Moorhead on Oct. 7, 2022, earning a 3-1 victory over the Mustangs. 
• SMSU and Northern State meet for the 32nd time in program history with the series tied at 14-14-3 for both teams.  
• The two teams last met on Oct. 27, 2023, with NSU earning a 2-0 victory in Marshall, Minn.  

SCOUTING MSU MOORHEAD 
• Scott Forster enters his first season as the head coach of MSU Moorhead. 
• The Dragons are 1-12-2 overall and 1-9-1 in the conference following a 9-0 loss to then-No. 9 Minnesota State on Friday. 
• Madalynn Hopkins leads the Dragons offense with two goals and 12 shots on goal. 
• Three other MSUM players each tallied one goal and one assist to support the Dragons offense. 
• MSUM goalkeeper, Quinn Carter has recorded a total of 88 saves this season with one shutout and 2.24 goals against average.      

SCOUTING NORTHERN STATE 
• Bob Casper enters his fourth season as the head coach of Northern State. 
• The Wolves are 6-5-4 overall and 5-3-3 in conference following a 2-1 loss against St. Cloud State and a 0-0 tie with then-No. 9 Minnesota State last weekend.  
• Megan Fastenau leads the Wolves' offense with six goals, two assists and 15 shots on goal. 
• Sophia Taylor and Lauren Youngquist both tallied three goals and two assists to support the NSU offense.   
• NSU goalkeeper, Alexus Townsend has recorded a total of 52 saves with 1.00 goals against average.    

HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW  
Clay Glasgow is in his third season as head coach and has a record of 10-30-10 overall, including 10-23-7 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.  
• Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.  
• During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons. 

MUSTANG HISTORY  
• SMSU is in its 29th season of soccer in 2024 and 28th season of competition (2020 was canceled).  
• SMSU has compiled an all-time record of 164-308-39, including 119-178-28 in NSIC games.  
• SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  
• SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
