Women's Soccer

Mustang soccer heads north for a pair of matches against Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State

THIS WEEK 

• The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (0-6-1, 0-2-1 NSIC) travels north for its first NSIC road matches against Minnesota Crookston (1-5-1, 1-2 NSIC) at 3 p.m. on Friday and Bemidji State (4-3, 2-1 NSIC) at 1 p.m., on Sunday.   

LAST WEEK 

• The Mustangs secured their first conference point last Friday after earning a 0-0 tie against UMary.  

• The Mustangs rounded out the weekend with a 0-1 loss to Minot State.  

ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE  

• Senior forward Selena Prolic leads the team offensively with one goal and eight shots on goal. 

• Junior forward Haley Mason has netted one goal to support the offense and posted four shots on goal.      

• Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Hicks has recorded a total of 40 saves this season with 2.00 goals against average. 

SERIES HISTORY 

• SMSU and Minnesota Crookston meet for the 28th time in program history with the Mustangs holding a 23-3-1 advantage over the Golden Eagles.  

• The two teams last played on Oct. 1, 2023, with SMSU earning a 2-0 victory in Marshall, Minn. 

• UMC's last win in the series happened in Crookston on Oct. 23, 2016, earning a 1-0 victory over the Mustangs. 

• SMSU and Bemidji State meet for the 29th time in program history with BSU holding a 12-11-5 advantage.  

• The two teams last met on Sept. 29, 2023, with both teams earning a 1-1 draw in Marshall, Minn.  

SCOUTING MINNESOTA CROOKSTON 

• Neil Mancktelow enters his second season as the head coach of Minnesota Crookston. 

• The Golden Eagles are 1-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference following 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls last weekend.  

• Brooklyn Fischbach leads the Golden Eagles offense with two goals and three shots on goal. 

 • UMC goalkeeper, Jordan Metz has tallied a total for 41 saves this season with 1.47 goals against average.      

SCOUTING BEMIDJI STATE  

• Jim Stone enters his 23rd season as the head coach of Bemidji State. 

• The Beavers 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference following a win against Sioux Falls last weekend.  

• Katrina Barthelt leads the Beavers' offense with five goals and 13 shots on goal.  

• BSU goalkeeper, Sonia Alfieri has recorded a total of 21 saves with 0.77 goals against average.    

HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW  

Clay Glasgow is in his third season as head coach and has a record of 9-24-9 overall, including 9-17-6 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.  

• Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.  

• During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons. 

MUSTANG HISTORY  

• SMSU is in its 29th season of soccer in 2024 and 28th season of competition (2020 was canceled).  

• SMSU has compiled an all-time record of 163-302-38, including 118-172-25 in NSIC games.  

• SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  

• SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
