SMSU soccer hosts No. 12 Minnesota State and Sioux Falls for homecoming weekend

THIS WEEK 
• The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (1-7-1, 1-3-1 NSIC) returns home this weekend with matches against No. 12 Minnesota State (6-1-3, 5-0-1 NSIC) at 3 p.m. on Friday and Sioux Falls (1-8, 1-4 NSIC) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.    

LAST WEEK 
• The Mustangs earned their first conference victory against Minnesota Crookston last Friday with a 2-0 win.  
• SMSU fell to Bemidji State 2-1 on Sunday, after netting a late goal.  

ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE  
• Junior forward Haley Mason has netted two goals to support the offense and posted six shots on goal.     
Selena Prolic, Kylie Peters, and Malorie Maderak each tallied one goal thus far in the season.      
• Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Hicks has recorded a total of 62 saves this season with two shutouts and 1.71 goals against average. 

SERIES HISTORY 
• SMSU and Minnesota State meet for the 25th time in program history with MSU holding a 22-1-1 advantage over the Mustangs.  
• The two teams last played on Oct. 6, 2023, with MSU earning a 3-0 victory in Mankato, Minn. 
• SMSU's last win in the series happened in Mankato on Nov. 17, 2013, earning a 2-1 victory over the Mavericks in the NCAA Central Region tournament. 
• SMSU and Sioux Falls meet for the 19th time in program history with SMSU holding a 10-7-1 advantage over the Cougars.  
• The two teams last met on Oct. 8, 2023, with USF earning a 2-1 victory in Sioux Falls, S.D.  
• SMSU's last win in the series happened in Marshall on Oct. 27, 2022, earning a 3-2 victory.  

SCOUTING NO. 12 MINNESOTA STATE 
• Brian Bahl enters his 12th season as the head coach of Minnesota State. 
• The Mavericks are ranked No. 12 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Division II poll.   
• The Mavericks are 6-1-3 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference following 1-0 victory over Minnesota Duluth and a 1-1 tie with St. Cloud State last weekend.  
• Maddix Archer leads the Mavericks offense with four goals, two assists and ten shots on goal.
• MSU goalkeeper, Clare Longueville has recorded a total of 22 saves this season with four shutouts and 0.31 goals against average.      

SCOUTING SIOUX FALLS  
• Brittany Domino enters her 10th season as the head coach of Sioux Falls. 
• The Cougars are 1-8 overall and 1-4 in conference following a 2-0 loss against Northern State and a 2-0 victory against MSU Moorhead last weekend.  
• Mara Nelson leads the Cougars' offense with two goals and nine shots on goal.  
• USF goalkeeper, Caroline Titze has recorded a total of 41 saves with 2.00 goals against average.    

HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW  
Clay Glasgow is in his third season as head coach and has a record of 10-25-9 overall, including 10-18-6 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.  
• Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.  
• During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons. 

MUSTANG HISTORY  
• SMSU is in its 29th season of soccer in 2024 and 28th season of competition (2020 was canceled).  
• SMSU has compiled an all-time record of 164-303-38, including 119-177-27 in NSIC games.  
• SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  
• SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
