MARSHALL, MINN. - The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team fell to No. 16 ranked University of Mary Marauders by a final score of 31-12 on Thursday night.    

The dual started with the 174-pound match between Elijah Sterner and Wyatt Lidberg. Lidberg kicked things off with 12-8 win via decision, giving UMary a 3-0 lead.  

At 184, Adam Sylvester responded for the Mustangs with 6-3 win via decision, to tie the team score 3-3.  

UMary would retake the lead, winning 197 by decision, 285 by major decision, 125 by fall, 141 by technical fall, and 149 by major decision. UMary would push its lead to 28-3. 

At 157, Sean Howk would grab SMSU's second win of the dual by a 3-0 decision.  

The dual ended with a forfeit in the 165-pound match by UMary. 

"Great wrestling all around. The team came out and showed the fight and determination that has become our style. Wrestling is a sport of little nuances that can blow matches out of proportion. Today, we won on some little things and lost on some little things. It's back to practice for our starters, with an emphasis on those basics and off to the dragon open for backups to put our practice to the test. We couldn't have asked for better competition to start the NSIC season. Now, it's time to grind"
