SMSU falls to Winona State twice on Sunday

WINONA, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State softball team (19-30 overall, 10-16 NSIC) dropped a pair of games, 11-0 and 9-1 both in five innings, to Winona State (30-18, 14-8 NSIC) at Maynard R. Johnson Field on the campus of Winona State University. 
 
Riley Kramolisch had three hits on the day, while Molly Bull had two. Abby Russell, Emma Humpal, Brynn Webber, and Paris Van Dyke each collected a hit. 
 
The Warriors scored three first-inning runs and four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead in game one. 
 
SMSU tallied just three hits in game one. Winona State piled on one more run in the third and three more runs in the fourth to close out the game via run-rule.
 
Morgyn Otte (8-12) would get the loss in game one, going three innings, and giving up seven runs on nine hits while striking out two. Jordan Bussey threw one inning in relief, allowing four runs on two hits and seven walks.
 
SMSU opened the scoring in game two in the second inning, with Brynn Webber smashing an infield single to plate Molly Bull and take a 1-0 lead. 
 
Winona State was limited to just three hits by the Mustang defense before finally breaking through with an explosive fifth inning. 
 
The Warriors responded with eight hits in the fifth inning en route to scoring nine runs and ending the game via run-rule.   
 
Karlie Miller (11-16) went four 2/3 innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits and a walk while striking out four in game two. 
 
The Mustangs return home on Saturday, April 27, for a doubleheader with Minnesota State starting at 1 p.m. at Mustang Field.
