Mustang soccer continues home stand with matches against UMary and Minot State

THIS WEEK 
  • The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (0-5, 0-1 NSIC) continues home NSIC action with matches against UMary (4-1, 2-0 NSIC) at 3 p.m. on Friday and Minot State (2-1-2, 0-1-1 NSIC) at 1 p.m., on Sunday.   
LAST WEEK 
  • The Mustangs began conference play hosting Wayne State last Friday. 
  • The Wildcats' offense was unstoppable when they scored three goals before the Mustangs were able to find the back of the net from a penalty kick late in the game. Wayne State sealed the game with its final goal off a free kick in the remaining nine minutes.  
ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE  
  • Senior forward Selena Prolic leads the team offensively with one goal and six shots on goal. 
  • Junior forward Haley Mason has netted one goal to support the offense and posted three shots on goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper, Rachel Hicks has recorded a total of 22 saves this season with 3.00 goals against average. 
SERIES HISTORY 
  • SMSU and UMary meet for the 22nd time in program history with UMary holding a 17-4 advantage over the Mustangs.  
  • The two teams last played on Sept. 24, 2023, with UMary earning a 1-0 victory in Bismarck, N.D. 
  • SMSU's last victory in the series happened in Marshall on Oct. 2, 2016, earning a 5-1 victory. 
  • SMSU and Minot State meet for the 14th time in program history with MISU holding a 10-3 advantage.
  • The two teams last met on Sept. 22, 2023, with the Mustangs securing a 2-0 victory in Minot, N.D.  
SCOUTING UMARY 
  • Sarah Cook enters her 13th season as the head coach of UMary. 
  • The Marauders are 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference following shutout wins over Minot State and MSU Moorhead last weekend. 
  • UMary was picked to finish fourth in the NSIC preseason poll, after finishing last season 10-8-3 overall and 7-5-2 in conference play. 
  • Rachel Gensch leads the Marauders offense with three goals and three assists while recording 11 shots on goal.      
SCOUTING MINOT STATE  
  • T.J. Perez enters his third season as the head coach of Minot State. 
  • The Beavers 2-1-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference following a loss to UMary and a tie to Northern State this past weekend.  
  • Minot State was picked to finish ninth in the NSIC preseason poll, after finishing last season 6-8-4 overall and 3-7-4 in conference play. 
  • Sierra Haren leads the Beavers' offense with one goal and starting all games thus far in the season.   
HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW  
  • Clay Glasgow is in his third season as head coach and has a record of 9-22-8 overall, including 9-16-5 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.
  • Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.
  • During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons. 
MUSTANG HISTORY  
  • SMSU is in its 29th season of soccer in 2024 and 28th season of competition (2020 was canceled).
  • SMSU has compiled an all-time record of 163-301-37, including 118-171-24 in NSIC games.  
  • SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.  
  • SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
