Mustang soccer back on the road this weekend with two matches

THIS WEEK
  • The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team (2-7, 1-5 NSIC) are back on the road this weekend with a pair of matches.
  • The Mustangs start the weekend in North Dakota against Jamestown (1-7, 1-5 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 10, at 2:30 p.m.
  • Then on Sunday, Oct. 12, the Mustangs travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State (1-6-2, 1-3-2 NSIC) at 1 p.m.
  • Both games are available to watch on the NSIC Network.
LAST WEEK
  • The Mustangs finished their four-match home stretch, facing No. 2 Minnesota State and St. Cloud State.
  • SMSU lost against No. 2 Minnesota State 2-0. The Mavericks scored two second half goals after Mustang goalkeeper Kennady Krebs made four saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless at the break.
  • The Mustangs lost last Sunday to St. Cloud State 2-0 with goalkeeper Stella Litzen making seven saves for SMSU.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday's matchup with Jamestown will be the first time the two teams will meet in their history.
  • Northern State and SMSU will meet for the 33rd time on Sunday, with the Wolves holding a 15-14-3 advantage.
  • Northern State won last year's matchup 4-0.
SCOUTING JAMESTOWN
  • The Jimmies in their first season in the NSIC have started the season 1-7 and 1-5 in the conference. Their lone win on the season is against Minnesota Crookston.
  • The Jimmies are led by head coach Nick Becker in his 14th season at Jamestown.
  • Freshman forward Bailey Fox is one of four Jimmies with a goal on the season.
SCOUTING NORTHERN STATE
  • The Wolves are 1-6-2 on the season, and 1-3-2 in NSIC play. The Wolves lone win on the season came last Friday against Minnesota State Moorhead 4-1.
  • Northern State is coached by Bob Casper in his 5th season at the school.
  • Sophomore forward Jaylee Hofer is the Wolves' top goal scorer this season with three goals, scoring twice against MSUM.
HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW 
  • Clay Glasgow is in his fourth season as head coach and has a record of 13-39-10 overall, including 12-30-7 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.   
  • Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.   
  • During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons.
NEXT WEEK
  • The Mustangs continue their road trip with a match on Friday, Oct. 17, against Wayne State in Wayne, Neb.
  • SMSU returns home on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. against Augustana.
  • Both matches will be available to watch on the NSIC Network.
