Mustangs jump two spots into top 15 in recent AVCA poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's volleyball team (19-6, 12-6 NSIC) moves up two spots to No. 14 in the recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) DII poll released on Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs, ranked No. 16 in the week nine poll, won both matches last weekend away from home, defeating then No. 22 ranked Northern State in four sets, and Jamestown 3-1 the next day.

SMSU is one of five NSIC schools represented in the recent poll, with Wayne State leading the conference at No. 3. Concordia-St. Paul jumps to No.6 followed by St. Cloud State at No. 11. The Mustangs are at No. 14, followed by Minnesota State at No. 23. Northern State and Minnesota Duluth dropped out of the top 25 after rough weekends, with both still receiving votes.

The Mustangs end NSIC regular season action with two home matches this weekend. SMSU will face UMary on Friday, No. 14, at 6 p.m. on Senior Night, while the Mustangs will face Minot State the next day at 2 p.m. Both matches are available to watch on the NSIC Network.
