MITCHELL, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team competed in the Dakota Wesleyan Open Saturday with three place winners for the Mustangs.
 
All three wrestlers earning sixth place finishes defaulted to sixth after already wrestling the maximum amount of matches (six).
 
Dylan St. Germain (unattached) took home a sixth-place finish in the 125 lbs. bracket. St. Germain won by fall three times in his six matches on the day, also winning a major decision in his second match.
 
Dylan Louwagie (unattached) at 149 lbs. also received a sixth-place finish, winning four straight matches in the process, two by fall, and two by maj. decision.
 
Tate Condezo, wrestling at 157 lbs., finished sixth place as well, winning four matches by fall and one by decision.
 
"Horsepower is a real thing. Today we had 3 wrestlers wrestle the maximum amount of matches and default to place," said Chayse Jackson, SMSU head coach. "We also had a large group dive deep into the tournament, pick up wins in consolation, and stay mentally tough. Our youth showed a few times, costing us points and a few matches, but the experience gained will vastly outweigh those mistakes in the long-term. I am looking forward to saddling up next week for our first 2 duals, including Military night at home in the PE gym on Saturday. The 'Stangs are here to fight"
 
SMSU competes again Thursday, Nov. 13, traveling to Sioux City, Iowa, facing Briar Cliff at 7 p.m. The Mustangs return to the PE Gym on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m., facing Dakota Wesleyan. Tickets for Saturday's dual and more information can be found at smsumustangs.com/sports/wrestling.
