SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team opened its weekend at the 2025 Mustang Invitational dropping both games of a doubleheader to Truman State (Mo.), 6-0 and 6-3, on Saturday night inside the ASB Sports Complex, in Sioux Center, Iowa.
SMSU drops to 1-7 overall, while TSU moves to 6-5 overall on the season.
Game One (6-0, TSU)
Karlie Miller (1-3) was dealt the loss in game one, surrendering 13 hits and six runs (three earned) while striking out four and walking one in a complete game. The Bulldogs' Kaylyn Jones (1-0) earned the victory in game one, giving up four hits while striking out three.
SMSU totaled five hits between four batters.
Riley Kramolisch led the charge going 2 for four at the dish.
The first inning was quiet for both teams with the Mustangs leaving one on base.
TSU put one on the board in the top half of the second inning off a double from Caragan Baker to give the Bulldogs the early lead.
SMSU was unable to get the bats going and the Bulldogs would continue to extend their lead to 6-0 after five innings to close out game one.
Game Two (6-3, TSU)
The Bulldogs opened the scoring once again, but the Mustangs would respond with a run of their own to tie the game 1-1 after two innings.
The Mustangs would take the lead after a clutch triple by freshman
Lexi Ingalls to plate two runners in the top of the fourth inning. TSU would respond with a pair of runs to tie the game 3-3.
The Bulldogs used a big sixth inning to lift past the Mustangs and to take game two 6-3.
Jordyn Marsh (0-2) was tabbed with the loss in game two, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits while striking out three. Taylor Avaree (1-0) snagged the win, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
Lexi Ingalls went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Mustangs. Ingalls earned two RBIs in the loss.
