MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling squad is on the road this weekend, facing Minnesota State Moorhead on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. The Mustangs then travel west to face Minot State the following Sunday at 1 p.m.
Fifth-year head coach
Chayse Jackson is sending 13 athletes for competition over the weekend.
Last weekend the Mustangs faced a pair of nationally ranked squads in UMary and St. Cloud State, picking up a pair of wins in the process from
Tate Condezo and
Xander Kenworthy.
Minnesota State Moorhead hold a 2-6 record this season, with wins over DIII Marymount University (Va.) and No. 11 ranked Kutztown (Pa.) The Dragons have one wrestler in the top 15 in their respective weight class, PJ Velazquez at 141 lbs., with a 10-4 dual record on the season.
Minot State holds a dual record of 5-8, including a win over Jamestown and two against Bismarck State College. The Beavers do not have any wrestlers in the top 15 of their weight classes.
The Mustangs return to Marshall next week for the team's final home duals of the season, facing Northern State on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., and Jamestown the following day at 5 p.m. Both duals will be held in the PE Gym and will be streaming live on the NSIC Network.
