MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (1-7-3, 1-5-2 NSIC) battled to a 2-2 draw against Jamestown (4-4-3, 4-2-2 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
SMSU struck first in the 11th minute as Karla Paredes-Nino scored her first goal of the season, with an assist from Jada Backes. Jamestown answered in the 36th minute when Marisa Brown scored off an assist from Langley Grow, sending the match into halftime tied at 1-1.
Paredes-Nino put the Mustangs back in front early in the second half, scoring her second goal of the match in the 49th minute to give SMSU a 2-1 advantage.
Jamestown responded in the 66th minute when Kyah Gabel found the back of the net off an assist from Oriana Borrome, evening the score at 2-2.
SMSU finished with five shots, including four on goal, while Jamestown recorded 14 shots with eight on goal. The Mustangs held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks in the second half, with each team finishing with five corners overall.
Kennady Krebs played all 90 minutes in goal for SMSU and recorded six saves. Jamestown goalkeeper Taylor Musser also played the full match and made two saves.
Paredes-Nino led SMSU with three shots, all on goal, while Abigail Schmidt and Laynee Godfrey each recorded one shot on goal.
SMSU faces Wayne State at home next Friday at 4 p.m., before traveling to Sioux Falls on Sunday coming up against Augustana with kickoff at 1 p.m.
