ROCHESTER, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team competed today at the RCTC Yellowjacket Open, earning 10 placers overall. 

The Mustangs finished with 26 wins in total, including nine victories by fall and five by TF. SMSU secured 56 takedowns and scored 389 points throughout the day. 

Dylan Louwagie won the Open division at 149 lbs., going 4-0 including a win by fall, TF, and two wins by major decision. 

Dylan St. Germain finished second in the 125 lbs. Open division, highlighted by an 11-10 decision win against Upper Iowa's Jackson Heaston. 

In the Freshman/Sophomore 174 lbs. division, Clayton McGuire earned three wins, two by major decision, and one by fall. 

"Today was a great start to the season for the Mustangs," said coach Chayse Jackson. "We had two athletes punch their ticket into the finals and a total of 10 athletes place. The Mustangs wrestled in a competitive field against close to 20 teams, including several conference opponents, and won matches that will have seeding criteria at the end of the year. I'm proud of the effort and the continued tenacity of these guys as we begin the year. I'm truly excited to see what the next few weeks will bring as we hit the mat in our first dual next weekend, then follow up with another tournament on Saturday. Let's ride." 

The Mustangs face Dakota Wesleyan in the team's opening dual on Thursday night, and compete in the Grand View Open on Saturday.
