MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State softball team (17-13, 3-1 NSIC) closed its weekend on Saturday against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (8-21, 1-3 NSIC) in a doubleheader, winning game one 7-2, and dropping game two 4-3 in eight innings.
GAME ONE
Ramsey Hopp (6-8) pitched the first four innings for the Mustangs, allowing two earned runs on six hits, striking out two batters. Jordyn Marsh picked up her second save of the season, pitching three scoreless innings.
Aliza Acker led SMSU with three hits while Hopp and Emma Humpal had two hits each. Hopp led the team with three RBIs.
UMC took an early lead in the second inning with Jocelyn Hernandez scoring off a wild pitch.
Acker scored the Mustangs first run of the game off a UMC error in the top of the third inning.
Rayna French gave the Golden Eagles the lead again in the fourth inning with an RBI double.
Acker followed that in the fifth inning by hitting her third home run of the season, her second in consecutive games, tying the game at 2-2.
Hopp gave SMSU the lead in the same inning with an RBI single allowing Humpal to score.
Kennah Bretschneider stole home in the sixth after a double steal play by Coach Bouman's team.
In the seventh inning, Hopp extended the Mustangs' lead to 6-2 with a 2-RBI single into center field. Lexi Ingalls would bring home the final run in the seventh with an RBI single of her own.
UMC's Hannah Trzinski (3-4) pitched six innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with five walks. Gabrielle Gomez pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs on four hits. Rayna French led the team with three hits.
GAME TWO
Jordyn Marsh (11-4) pitched 7 1/3 innings for SMSU, allowing four runs (three earned) on ten hits, striking out two Golden Eagles.
Aliza Acker again led the Mustangs with three hits, six total in the two games on Saturday, and two RBIs. Marsh had two hits, while Paris Van Dyke, Ramsey Hopp, and Carley Stych each added one hit.
The Mustangs scored all three of their runs in the third inning, with Acker providing a 2-run single through the left side, and Hopp adding the third run off a single and a Golden Eagles throwing error.
UMC would add two in the fifth inning with Megan Surgenor scoring off a Mustangs error and Jocelyn Hernandez adding an RBI single through the left side.
Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, UMC's Madisen Yandle tied the game with an RBI-triple to right center, which would bring the game into extra innings.
The Golden Eagles ended the game with a double to left field from Chayse Doering which allowed Valerie VanZant to score.
SMSU is scheduled to host Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth next Saturday and Sunday at Mustang Field for the team's 2026 home debut. Updates will be provided on times and possible locations.
