Mustang softball swept by Wayne State Sunday

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State softball team (25-23, 11-11 NSIC) were swept Sunday afternoon at Mustang Field by the Wayne State Wildcats (35-11, 15-7 NSIC), dropping game one 12-6 and game two 10-3.
 
GAME ONE
 
Ramsey Hopp (8-15) pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Mustangs allowing nine runs (four earned) on 11 hits, striking out two batters. Jordan Bussey came in relief of Hopp in the fifth inning, allowing three earned runs in 1/3 innings.
 
Paris Van Dyke led the way for SMSU offensively with three hits, while Hopp, Kaylee Hafermann, and Carley Stych had two hits each. Van Dyke, Stych, and Riley Kramolisch had two RBIs.
 
Carley Stych opened the scoring in the second inning with an infield single, allowing Morgan Alar (pinch running for Jordyn Marsh) to score.
 
The Wildcats kicked the door wide open in the fourth inning, scoring eight runs on six hits, including a pair of three-run home runs from Lillie Timm and Kennadi Borngrebe.
 
The Mustangs battled back in the next half inning, scoring four runs courtesy of a 2-run single from Kramolisch, and an inside-the-park home run Paris Van Dyke, the first true inside-the-park home run this season.
 
WSC added three runs in the top of the fifth inning from two bases loaded walks and an RBI single from Taylor Coleman leaving the score at 11-5 in favor of the Wildcats.
 
The two teams added one run each in the seventh, for WSC a solo home run from Maddie Scobee, and for SMSU Stych's second RBI single, finishing the game at 12-6.
 
WSC's Taylor Coleman (13-4) was credited with a win pitching 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with five strikeouts. Jadeyn Stahr came in relief in the fourth inning, closing out the game with 3 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits. Five Wildcat batters had two hits in the game, while Scobee, Borngrebe, and Timm had three RBIs.
 
GAME TWO
 
Jordyn Marsh (17-7) pitched seven innings allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits, striking out four Wildcats.
 
Emma Humpal led SMSU with 2 hits, while five other Mustang batters had a hit in the contest. Marsh led the team with 2 RBIs.
 
The Wildcats started game two where they left off in the third inning, scoring four runs including a bases-clearing double from Maddie Scobee.
The Mustangs responded in the bottom half of the inning with the only three runs of the game courtesy of a two-RBI single from Marsh and an RBI single from Kennah Bretschneider.
 
WSC added four runs in the top half of the fourth inning capped off by a two run home run from Jordyn Rochholz. The Wildcats would add a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning, ending the scoring at 10-3.
 
Kennadi Borngrebe (14-6) pitched all seven innings for WSC, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, striking out 10 Mustang batters. Lillie Timm led the way for the Wildcats with three hits, and three different batters had two RBIs for Wayne State.
 
The Mustangs are scheduled to play a pair of doubleheaders next Saturday and Sunday against Jamestown and Northern State respectively.
