MARSHALL, Minn. - Despite the cold and rainy weather Saturday afternoon, the Southwest Minnesota State softball team (29-23, 15-11 NSIC) swept the Jamestown Jimmies (30-19, 11-15 NSIC) in ten combined innings, winning game one 10-0 and game two 17-3.
On a day celebrating Riley Kramolisch, the lone senior for the Mustangs, she along with freshman Aliza Acker led the team with five hits in the two games.
GAME ONE
Jordyn Marsh (20-7) pitched five scoreless innings allowing just two hits with four strikeouts.
Riley Kramolisich and Aliza Acker led SMSU with two hits each. Acker, along with Marsh and Lexi Ingalls had two RBIs. Kramolisch and Van Dyke scored a pair of runs each.
Acker kicked off the scoring in the first inning with a single down the left field line.
Kramolisch began a seven-run second inning for the Mustangs with a bases loaded single. Van Dyke then drew a bases loaded walk before Acker grounded out to second base to score the fourth run.
Van Dyke scored on a passed ball, Emma Humpal scored the sixth run on a wild pitch, before Ingalls delivered a two-run single to right field.
Marsh would bring home the final two runs of game one in the third inning with a single to second base.
Aubrey Quern (13-5) started the game for the Jimmies on the mound pitching 1 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on three hits. Abby Blair pitched the remaining 2 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits with one strikeout. Kasydi Bennett and Lauren Weigel had the lone hits for the Jimmies.
GAME TWO
Ramsey Hopp (9-15) pitched the first four innings for SMSU allowing three runs (one earned). Jordyn Marsh pitched a perfect fifth inning with one strikeout.
Riley Kramolisch and Aliza Acker led SMSU with three hits each, while Paris Van Dyke led with three RBIs. Van Dyke and Kramolisch scored three runs each. The 17 runs scored is the most in a game since 2021.
Madelyn Webb put UJ on the board first with a single to right field to allow Kasydi Bennett to score.
SMSU responded in the bottom half of the first with two runs of their own from Riley Kramolisch and Acker scoring off an error.
Sydney Grendler leveled the game at two apiece in the second inning, before Paris Van Dyke's third home run of the season, a three-run shot, put the Mustangs back in front 5-2.
Webb's second RBI of the game in the third inning would be the final run for the Jimmies, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of SMSU.
The Mustangs run-fest fourth inning concluded with 12 runs and 10 hits, which included two separate RBI singles from Emma Humpal and Hopp, while Kennah Bretschneider recorded her first extra-base hit with a two-RBI double.
UJ's Hope Ransom (9-9) pitched the first 3 1/3 innings allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits. Cienna Clemens and Abby Blair pitched the remaining 2/3 innings in relief, allowing eight runs (seven earned) combined. Webb led the Jimmies with two hits and two RBIs.
The Mustangs are scheduled to travel west next week for their final regular season series against UMary on Saturday and Minot State on Sunday.
