Mustangs fall to Warriors in NSIC Tournament quarterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 8 seeded Southwest Minnesota State softball team (32-26) were defeated in the NSIC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday afternoon by the No. 1 seeded Winona State Warriors (48-8) by a score of 4-2.
 
Jordyn Marsh (22-9) pitched six innings for SMSU allowing four earned runs on five hits, striking out five Warrior batters.
 
The Mustangs were led at the plate by senior Riley Kramolisch, playing in her final collegiate game, with two hits. Emma Humpal provided the lone RBI.
 
SMSU were the first team on the board, with Kramolisch scoring the opening run off a Winona State throwing error in the top of the 4th.
 
The Warriors took the lead in the bottom half of the 4th with a three-run home run from Braelee Jodarski.
 
The Mustangs converted another run in the top of the 6th off a Humpal bases-loaded groundout, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
 
Jodarski added another home run in the bottom of the 6th with a solo shot to center field.
 
Izzy Howe (19-3) pitched 5 + innings for the Warriors allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and five strikeouts. Jayda Berg came in relief of Howe in the sixth inning, pitching two perfect innings. Jodarski led WSU with two hits and all four RBIs. The Warriors are currently the seeded at No. 5 in the current NCAA Central Region Rankings for the NCAA Tournament.
