MARSHALL, Minn. – The No. 14 ranked Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team completed a perfect home weekend with a 3-0 victory over Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon inside the PE Gym. SMSU earned the sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-21.
SMSU, which extended its winning streak to three in a row, is now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Mya Krystosek paced the Mustangs with 11 kills on 27 attacks, while
Mollie Rupp and
Ashley Peltier both finished with 10 kills.
Tatem Schmidt dished out a team-high 20 assists with
Sydney Thein adding 17 assists. The Mustangs closed the match hitting .310 with 47 kills on 113 attacks.
MSU finished the match hitting .155 with 33 kills on 110 swings. Avery Klein led the Mavericks (3-9, 1-3 NSIC) with nine kills.
Natalie Pilney recorded six kills to help the Mustangs to the victory and was solid at the net, collecting two solo and four block assists. SMSU finished the match with nine total blocks.
SMSU, which did not trail in either the first or second set, was led on defense with
Ashlynn Schroeder and
Paige Steinmetz each racking up 14 digs.
SMSU continues league play on Thursday, Sept. 24, with a 6 p.m. match at the University of Sioux Falls.
