Completing his second season on the Mustang coaching staff in 2009 is assistant head coach Andy Carr.  He is also the team’s offensive line coach and run-game coordinator while also serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

In 2009, the Mustang offensive line helped SMSU average 36 points and 396.2 yards per game and rush for a total of 1,220 yards, the highest total by a Mustang team since 2005.  SMSU scored 30 or more points in eight games tying a school record for most 30 point games in a single-season.  SMSU also rushed for 18 touchdowns in 2009, tying for the third most rushing touchdowns in a single-season in school history.

During his first season on staff in 2008, the Mustang offensive line produced the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher in nine years and just the fourth in school history.  SMSU averaged 29.4 points per game, while quarterback Josh Shudlick set or tied two conference records including passing yards and touchdown passes.

Carr spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons as associate head coach/offensive coordinator at NCAA Division II St. Anselm College (N.H.).  During his tenure at St. Anselm he coached a wide receiver that set school records for career receptions, receiving yards and consecutive games with a reception.

Carr began his coaching career at Northern State University where he served as the running game coordinator/offensive line coach from 2000-02.  At NSU, he was responsible for the calling of all running plays during games and recruited nationally at high schools and community colleges.  He coached a number of successful offensive teams and individual standouts, including a pair of offensive linemen and one running back that signed NFL contracts.  During the 2002 season, NSU’s offense was ranked 31st nationally in Division II and in 2001, the team’s running game was the ranked 11th in the nation.  During the 2000 season Northern State had the second leading rusher in NCAA II.

Prior to St. Anselm, Carr served as the co-offensive coordinator at Ridgeland High School in Rossville, Ga., and was also an assistant coach at Astronaut High School in Titusville, Fla.

A collegiate standout, Carr was a four-year member of the Winona State University football team earning all-conference honors three times.  He was a member of two NSIC championship teams and was team captain in 1999.  In 2005 he was selected to the Winona State University All-Century football team.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Winona State University in 1999, and then received his master’s degree from Northern State University in 2002.

Andy and his wife Nicole live in Marshall.
