Chad Simpson begins his first season on the SMSU coaching staff in 2011 and will coach the team's secondary and also serve as recruiting coordinator assistant.
Simpson spent the 2010 season as cornerbacks and special teams coach at Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University).
A 2010 graduate of Mesa State in criminal justice, Simpson played two seasons at cornerback for the Mavericks in 2008-09. During the 2009 season, he recorded 24 tackles, one interception and ranked second on the squad with five pass break-ups.
A native of Guadalupe, Calif., Simpson played two seasons at Allan Hancock College (Calif.) prior to Mesa State.
Simpson is pursuing his master's degree in sports leadership from SMSU.
