Cullen O’Brien begins his first season on the SMSU coaching staff in 2014 and will coach the team’s outside linebackers.
O’Brien, a native of Tampa, Fla., comes to SMSU after spending the 2013 season as defensive backs coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach at Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. Prior to coaching at Presentation, O’Brien served as a strength and conditioning intern at Western Carolina University in the summer of 2013.
O’Brien played two seasons at Presentation, serving as the team’s quarterback in the program’s inaugural season in 2011, before moving to safety in 2012. He served as team captain both seasons. He began his playing career at SMSU, redshirting in 2009, before appearing in eight games during the 2010 season.
O’Brien is a 2013 graduate of Presentation College with a degree in human performance and recreation.
