Danilo Robinson will coach the SMSU linebackers in 2010. Robinson comes to SMSU with 12 years of coaching experience at both the high school and college levels. He spent the 2009 season as linebackers coach at Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. Prior to last season, Robinson coached six seasons at the NCAA Division I level at both Utah State University and University of Louisiana-Monroe. In his first season at Utah State in 2005, Robinson coached the team’s tight ends and worked with the kickoff return unit. He then moved to the defensive side of the ball and coached the team’s defensive line and served as the program’s recruiting coordinator for three seasons.
Robinson joined the Utah State staff after working two seasons (2003-04) as linebackers coach at Louisiana-Monroe.
After spending the 1997 season as a strength and conditioning coach at Utah State, Robinson began his coaching career at Navy from 1998-2001, working at different times with the Midshipmen's linebackers, defensive line, offensive line and tight ends, while also serving as the junior varsity defensive coordinator.
He then spent the 2002 season as the offensive and defensive line coach at Northview (Calif.) High School before being promoted to head coach for 2003. However, he returned to the collegiate coaching ranks before coaching a prep game.
A 1997 graduate in political science from Utah State, Robinson was a defensive end at USU, earning second-team all-Big West honors as a senior in 1996 after recording 103 tackles and 7.5 sacks. He still owns school records for single-game sacks (5) and single-game tackles for loss (6). A two-year team captain, he was also a member of two conference championship teams.
Robinson is completing his master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University.
Danilo and his wife, Shelley, live in Marshall with son Dylan and daughter Sydney.
