Davontay Stevens

Davontay Stevens begins his first season on the SMSU coaching staff in 2016 and will serve as the team's running backs coach.
 
Stevens joins the SMSU coaching staff after spending the past three seasons as a running back in the Mustang program. In 2015, Stevens was named second team All-NSIC and was the team’s most valuable player after rushing for an NSIC-best 1,066 yards and 11 touchdowns on 237 carries. He also earned the program's “True Mustang Award”, which is presented to the student-athlete who embodies the ideals of SMSU football on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
 
Stevens was also a standout in the classroom, earning CoSIDA first team Academic All-American honors following the 2015 season.
 
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Stevens played two seasons at Ridgewater College prior to transferring to SMSU.
 
Stevens earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation and sports management from SMSU. Davontay and his girlfriend, Bobbie Jo, have a daughter, Taylin.
