SMSU Athletics

Lucas Mitchell is in his first season as an assistant coach in 2025 and will coach the team’s tight ends.
 
Mitchell comes to SMSU after spending two seasons (2023-24) as a defensive assistant coach at the University of Iowa.
 
Mitchell played two seasons at Ellsworth Community College where he was a team captain and earned all-conference and all-region accolades.
 
Mitchell earned his bachelor’s degree in sports studies from the University of Iowa in 2025.
