Patrick McCarthy is in his second season as defensive line coach at SMSU in 2011.
A native of Neenah, Wis., McCarthy came to SMSU after spending the 2009 season as defensive line coach at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He has also been an assistant coach at both St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Kan.) and Neenah High School (Wis.). McCarthy also served as a player and coach in Europe, spending time in France (2007) and Sweden (2008-09).
A 2006 graduate of the University of Minnesota, McCarthy played four seasons for the Gopher football team at both linebacker and defensive line and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2003-05).
McCarthy earned his bachelor's degree in sport studies from the University of Minnesota and is currently pursuing his master's degree in sports leadership at SMSU.
