Eric Chilson enters his second year as an assistant track & field coach at SMSU in 2017-18.
Chilson comes to SMSU after spending the 2015-16 season coaching at both Black Hills State University and Spearfish High School.
During his first year as an assistant working with the Mustangs' sprinters and hurdlers, SMSU saw five school records broken and seven All-NSIC performnces during the 2016-17 indoor track season. Chilson then oversaw five more school record breaking performances and ten All-NSIC performances during the 2017 outdoor season.
Chilson was a four-year letterwinner at BHSU, where he competed in both hurdles and sprints. A two-time conference All-Academic honoree, he has the second fastest time in school history in the 60 meter hurdles. He was also a two-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) placer in the 110 meter hurdles in 2014 and 2015.
He coached indoor track at BHSU in the fall of 2015 working with sprinters and hurdlers. He also coached outdoor track at Spearfish High School in spring of 2016 helping the team to a school record in the 4 x 400 (3:22.07) as well as placing third at the South Dakota State Track Meet.
Chilson is a 2015 graduate of BHSU with a degree in exercise science and is now pursuing an MS in physical education coaching of sport at SMSU.
