Julia Peniata is in her second season as an assistant coach for the SMSU volleyball program in 2023.
Peniata spent the 2018 and 2019 as the graduate assistant at Texas Christian University under Jill Kramer, where the team racked up 27 wins and reached the semifinals of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) in 2019.Â

Peniata is a 2015 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where she was a four-year Co-Captain and excelled on the court. She was an All-American, All-Big 12 first team member, Big 12 Setter of the Year and team MVP as a junior, helping the Sooners tie for second place in the Big 12 en route to the NCAA Tournament appearance. She was named to the All-Big 12 Freshmen Team in 2012, and reached the NCAA Tournament in her first three seasons as a Sooner while being named All-Big 12 for her final three seasons.Â

She then went on to play a professional season in Sweden, where she was a Co-Captain while coaching a youth team in Svedala.Â

Peniata came to SMSU after spending a year as an assistant coach for M1 Volleyball’s 18-1s club team, and was the varsity assistant and JV coach at West Lutheran High School. Prior to coaching at TCU, she was the 10th grade coach at Rogers High School, and coached the Oklahoma Elite 12-1s in 2013 and 2014 while playing at Oklahoma.Â

Peniata, formally Julia Doyle, is a 2016 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in communication and a minor in women and gender studies. She completed her master's degree in liberal arts from Texas Christian University in 2019.
Julia and her husband, Tyler, live in Marshall and have two children, son, Tali, and daughter, Alani.
