SMSU Athletics

Amy Schmiesing (MS, ATC, LAT) is in her fifth year as head athletic trainer in 2025-26. She began her duties on Aug. 2, 2021.

Schmiesing was a graduate assistant in the SMSU sports medicine department from 2013-15 and returned to SMSU in 2018-19 as an assistant athletic trainer.

Between her stints at SMSU, Schmiesing spent three years as an athletic trainer for Big Stone Therapies in Marshall, providing coverage for Marshall and Minneota High Schools.

Schmiesing is a 2011 graduate of South Dakota State with a degree in athletic training. Prior to first tenure at SMSU, she worked for Big Stone Therapies.

She earned her master's degree from SMSU in education with a emphasis in sports leadership in 2015.

Amy has two daughters, Sloane and Cora, and lives in Tracy.
