Mattie Hennen is in her third year as the head cheer team coach at SMSU in 2025-26. Hennen is also in her sixth year as an assistant athletic trainer at SMSU.
Hennen was a graduate assistant for two years in the SMSU sports medicine department before being named full-time in May of 2022.

Hennen was a competitive gymnast in USAG her entire childhood and graduated high school as a level 9 gymnast before competing in Acrobatics and Tumbling at King University. As a freshman at King, she competed in the National Championship Tournament for Acrobatics and Tumbling and was later a team captain during her senior season.

Hennen is a 2020 graduate of King University with a degree in athletic training and worked as an athletic training student with the King University softball and wrestling teams. She also served as athletic trainer for numerous high school programs.
Hennen earned her master's degree from SMSU in education with an emphasis in sports leadership in 2022.
Mattie and her husband, Cole, live in Marshall with son, Archie.Â
