George Seldat finished his 17th season at SMSU in 2014-15 and will serve as co-head coach of the SMSU program.
Seldat spent 16 seasons as head coach at SMSU from 1995-2010, before retiring following the 2010 season.
Seldat was a faculty member in the Business Administration and Public Affairs department at SMSU.
In the 2014-15 season, the Mustangs finished 5-14 overall and 1-10 in the NSIC.
A native of Decatur, Ill., Seldat has been involved in competitive tennis for more than 40 years. He is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association at the Professional I level and has been a member of the Marshall Tennis Association board of directors. As a player, Seldat competed in high school and also played one year at the University of Illinois.
At SMSU, Seldat has compiled 85 career victories, which places him second all-time in wins at the school. In addition, he has guided teams to seven top-three finishes in the NSIC during his tenure. Seldat took over as head coach in SMSU’s first year as an NCAA II school.
His players have been named first team all-conference 14 times. Seldat has also coached an NSIC Player of the Year and an NSIC Senior of the Year twice. He has coached five NSIC Tournament No. 1 singles champions and three No. 1 doubles champion pairs during his tenure.
Seldat received both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business administration from Illinois State University. He and his wife, Peg, live in Marshall.
