Tom Webb is in his 10th season as the head women's basketball coach at SMSU in 2025-26 and continues the process of bringing the program back to the top of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The team improved its victory total in each of his first four seasons on the sidelines and finished the 2024-25 season recording its sixth straight season of .500 or higher for the first time in over 20 years.  

Webb, who was named to the position on May 10, 2016, is the eighth head coach in program history and has a record of 124-119 during his tenure at SMSU, including 91-95 in conference play. Webb is in his 18th season as a Division II head coach compiling an overall record of 215-242.

The 2024-25 team put together one of the best seasons in team history, closing with a 28-5 overall (school record 28 wins), placing second in the NSIC standings and advancing to the NCAA region championship game. The NCAA tournament appearance was the program's first since 2001-02. SMSU, seeded No. 7, defeated No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul and No. 3 Fort Hays State in the NCAA Central Region Tournament before suffering a close loss to No. 1 seed Pittsburg State in the championship game.  

Bri Stoltzman put together one of the best seasons in team history, earning CCA National Player of the Year honors, while earning WBCA All-American first team accolades. She was named the NSIC Player of the Year and the NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year. Stoltzman also garnered CSC Academic All-American first team honors. 

Webb's teams, which are known for a fast-paced, up-tempo style of play, continually rank among the top in the NSIC and Division II in numerous statistical categories. SMSU finished the 2024-25 season ranking fourth in Division II in field goal pct., fourth in scoring offense, ninth in free throw pct. and 12th in 3-point field goal pct. In NSIC play, the Mustangs ranked tied for first in field goal pct., second in scoring offense, second in 3-point field goals made. The team was also strong on defense, rannking second in field goal pct. defense and first in 3-point field goal pct. defense. 

SMSU led the NSIC in 2023-24 in 3-point field goal pct. and in 3-point field goals made. The 2023-24 squad ranked third nationally in 3-pointers per game, sixth in 3-point attempts and 17^th in scoring. The Mustangs also rank high each season in free throw pct., including finishing 19^th during the 2023-24 season.
 
SMSU set a school single-game record on Nov. 17, 2018, with 19 3-point field goals made and set a team record with 45 3-point field goal attempts on Feb. 24, 2024.
 
As SMSU head coach, seven Mustangs have earned postseason NSIC honors with Caleigh Rodning earning All-NSIC second team accolades in both 2017-18 and 2018-19, with Meleah Reinhart earning first team All-NSIC South in 2020-21 and second team accolades in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2021-22. Stoltzman and Wall both earned All-NSIC second team honors in 2022-23, while following the 2023-24 season, Stoltzman was named All-NSIC first team with Wall earning All-NSIC second team. Abuk Akoi earned NSIC All-Defensive team honors in both 2019-20 and 2020-21. In 2024-25, in addition to the Stoltzman's honors, Audrey Swanson was named All-NSIC first team, while Peyton Blandin earned All-NSIC second team honors. 

During his tenure, Webb has coached five of the top 15 scorers in program history, including the top three in three pointers made. He also recruited and coached the top shot blocker in program history. Four of the top five individual three-point shooting seasons have come during his tenure, while his teams hold the top four spots in three-pointers made, including a school record 305 set during the 2023-24 season. The 2024-25 squad set school records in points (2,717), field goals made (991), field goal pct. (46.7) and rebounds (1,384).
 
In 2023-24, SMSU won 19 games for the second straight season and secured 15 conference victories for the first time since winning 17 during the 2000-01 season. The team had a 10-game winning streak during the season and won a pair of NSIC tournament games to advance to the NSIC tournament semifinals for the second straight season. SMSU junior Bri Stoltzman set a school record with 579 points, while senior Sam Wall broke the school record with 91 3-point field goals. SMSU won 11 home games for the second straight season tying for the second highest total in team history.

The 2022-23 season saw a new era for the program after losing four starters and a pair of key reserves to graduation. SMSU didn't blink, reaching the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history and first time since 2003. The team finished with 19 victories, its highest win total since 2004-05. The squad recorded a top three finish in the NSIC South, best in the division era, while earning a top four finish in the NSIC regular season standings for the first time since 2004-05. SMSU's 14 conference wins were the most since the 2004-05 campaign. SMSU earned a pair of Top 25 victories during the season, including an 88-85 win over No. 4 Minnesota State on Dec. 17, 2022, the first top-5 win since 2015. SMSU finished 12th nationally with 8.8 three pointers per game, 18th with a 35.6 three-point shooting percentage, 21st with 74.3 points per game, and 24th with a 44.3 field goal percentage. 

In 2021-22, SMSU ended with a 13-13 overall record, notching its third consecutive season of .500 or better. SMSU won its first three games of the season, including a 76-66 victory against No. 15-ranked Nebraska-Kearney, their first win over a ranked opponent since 2018-19, and would finish 10-3 at home, their best home record since the 2002-03 season. The Mustangs earned their first home NSIC tournament game since 2005, and first NSIC tournament victory since 2003, ending the season with their first ever tournament game inside the Pentagon.

SMSU finished 9-5 during the abbreviated 2020-21 season and just missed by percentage points in qualifying for the eight-team NSIC Tournament. It was the program's first back-to-back winning seasons since 2001-02 and 2002-03. 
 
In 2019-20, SMSU closed with a 16-12 overall record, notching its first winning season since 2009-10, while the 16 victories were the program’s highest total since the 2004-05 season. SMSU won its first three games of the season and would later win 10 of its final 13 games to close the regular season. The Mustangs won four straight games in February for the program’s longest winning streak since the 2009-10 campaign.   

Following a 3-24 season his first year on the sidelines in 2016-17, SMSU improved in both overall and conference victories in 2017-18, despite a roster of seven true freshmen before making major strides in 2018-19.

During the 2018-19 season, in which Webb earned his 100th career victory as a Division II head coach on Nov. 16, 2018, he led the Mustangs to a 12-16 overall record including 9-13 mark in NSIC play. The overall and conference victory totals were the highest in a season since 2009-10.
 
Webb came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2008-16) as the head coach at Division II Cameron University in Lawton, Okla. He took over a program that had won just eight combined games, including three in conference play, during the two seasons prior to taking over. He finished with a record of 91-123 during his eight-year tenure with one appearance in the NCAA tournament.
 
During the 2014-15 campaign, Webb led Cameron to one of its best seasons in school history, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The Aggies finished with an overall record of 15-12, including a 12-4 record in the Lone Star Conference—the most LSC victories in team history. For his efforts, Webb was named the LSC Coach of the Year. In 2015-16, Cameron finished 15-11 overall and placed fifth in the LSC with a record of 9-7.
 
During his time on the sideline at Cameron, Webb coached four LSC newcomers of the year, one LSC defensive player of the year, one LSC player of the year and one Academic All-American.
 
Prior to Cameron, Webb spent four seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Eastern Washington University (2004-08). He served as recruiting coordinator and oversaw the post players, with four earning all-conference honors; while one went on to play professional basketball in Europe. He was promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2007-08 season. He helped recruit and coach two EWU players who later earned Big Sky Conference MVP honors during their careers.
 
Webb earned his first head coaching position at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo., in 2000. He spent four seasons (2000-04) as head coach, leading the Trappers to a 94-32 overall record and a pair of conference titles. The team set a school record with 26 victories in back-to-back seasons, while his career .750 winning percentage is the highest in school history. He twice was named Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference (WCCAC) Coach of the Year.
 
The Trappers had success in the classroom as well, earning the 2003 National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) academic championship with a team GPA of 3.56.
 
Webb began his coaching career as a student assistant women's basketball coach at SMSU in 1998-99, before serving as a graduate assistant for the Northern State University men's basketball program in 1999-2000.
 
Webb earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education from SMSU in 1998 and earned his master's degree in health and physical education from Northern State in 1999.
 
Tom and his wife, Gina, live in Marshall with their children, Jackson (15), Addie (12), and twins, Samantha and Sierra (10).
