St. Paul, Minn.: Southwest Minnesota State University sophomore guard Matt Fletcher has been named second team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as voted by the eight NSIC head coaches.
The announcement came today from the conference office in St. Paul, Minn.
Fletcher, 6-foot-3, native of North Branch, Minn., finished the 14-game NSIC season ranking second in field goal percentage (56.5), second in three-point field goal percentage (50.0), second in three-point fields made (40) and ninth in scoring (14.0).
Overall in 28 games this season, Fletcher leads SMSU in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the field (117 of 233). He also leads the squad with 80 three-point field goals and is the team leader in three-point field goal percentage at 47.9 percent (80 of 167).
Fletcher has started 27 games this season and has scored double figures if 21 of 28 games in helping lead SMSU to a 15-13 record, their first winning season since 2001-02.
For his career, Fletcher has played in 58 games, making 50 starts and has scored 595 career points. He has 127 career three-pointers which already ranks sixth in school history. His 46.5 (127 of 273) career three-point percentage currently ranks first all-time in school history.
Fourth-seeded SMSU, who defeated Wayne State College (Neb.) on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Red Baron Classic, will take on top-seeded Winona State University on Saturday, Mar. 4 at 4 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
