Freshman Tori Fink has a season-high 14 points

SMSU Suffers a 77-70 Loss to Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, MINN.: 
The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs came back from a 26-44 halftime deficit but were unable to pull out a win as Bemidji State defeated SMSU 77-70 on Friday evening in Bemidji, Minn.

The Mustangs fall to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC, while BSU improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

SMSU finished the night shooting 42.6 percent from the field as they shot 50 percent in the second half, they finished with a 31.8 three-point shooting percentage and were 64.7 percent from the charity stripe.

Southwest had three-players score in double-digits as all three of those tied for the team-high, 14 points.  Freshman Tori Fink was 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-5 from behind the arch as she scored 11 of her 14 points in the second half.   Sophomore Sara Leidall and Liz Grider each also added 14.  Leidall tallied six in the first half and finished the night 5-for-9 from the field and 4-of-5 at the charity stripe.  Grider went 6-for-14 and hit two three-pointers.

Heidi Kimmes led the team with a career-high 12 rebounds in 24 minutes of play.  Abby Oakland led the team with four assists while having seven points.  Fink added three assists while having a team-high three steals. 

The Mustangs out-rebounded BSU 38-37 but committed 17 turnovers with 12 of those coming in the first half of play.

Bemidji State finished the game with a 44.8 shooting percentage as they were led by Stephanie Peterson's double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.  BSU's Karlee Simonson also added 15 points for the Beavers.

The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow night against NSIC opponent Minnesota, Crookston at 6 p.m.
