Big Second Half Leads Augustana to a 81-61 Victory Over SMSU

MARSHALL, MINN.:  Augustana College's Whitney Hofer scored 25 points to lead the Vikings to an 81-61 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University on Monday afternoon in Marshall, Minn.

The Mustangs fall to 5-7 overall while Augustana improves to 13-3 overall with the win.

SMSU held a 40-36 halftime lead but the Vikings came out strong as they tied the score at 44-44 in the first three minutes of play.  Augustana then went on a 7-0 run putting the Vikings up 55-48 with 12:14 remaining in the game.  Augie never looked back as they held the largest led of the game going up 24 points with 2:37 left to play.

SMSU finished the game shooting 36.5 percent from the field while Augustana finished with a 48.3 field goal shooting percentage. 

The Mustangs were led by Heidi Kimmes who had a team high 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Kimmes was the only Mustang to score in double digits while Sara Leidall and Liz Grider each added eight points.  Tori Fink had a team high four assists for SMSU.

Augustana had four players record double-digits points.  Whitney Hofer led the way with 25 while Molly Hayes had 19, Amy Puthoff added 16 and Ashley Holiday rounded it out with 11.

SMSU will be back in action on Friday facing Winona State on the road with tip off at 6 p.m.
