MARSHALL, MINN.: Wayne State College shot 57.7 percent from the field and were led by Laquisha Cook's 22 points in the 84-67 victory over the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Saturday evening in Marshall.
SMSU falls to 11-13 overall and 7-9 in the NSIC while Wayne State improves to 18-7 overall and 11-5 in conference play.
The Mustangs trailed by just six points at halftime, 42-36, but the Wildcats played strong in the second half connecting on 15-of-21 shots for a 71.4 field goal shooting percentage. Wayne State outscored the Mustangs 32-to-14 in the first 10:40 of the second half.
Southwest was led by Liz Grider's 18 points while Heidi Kimmes had 12. The Mustangs shot 38.5 percent from the field as they were 25-of-65.
SMSU's Sara Leidall led the team with seven rebounds while Tori Fink, Laura VanOverbeke, Megan Stadler and Andrea Fennern each had three assists.
The Mustangs committed 17 turnovers in the contest while the Wildcats had 19. SMSU outrebounded the opponent 33-32.
The Wildcats had four players record double-digit points. Laquisha Cook led the way with 22 while Andrea Schoepf had 19, Jodie Boss had 17 and Teresa Case added 12.
SMSU will be back in action on Tuesday hosting North Central at 6 p.m. in the R/A Facility.
