Record Setting Night as Mustangs Win Final Home Game of the Year

MARSHALL, MINN.:
The Southwest Minnesota State set five records as it defeated North Central (Minn.) 116-42 on Tuesday evening in SMSU's final home game of the season.  The win improves the Mustangs to 12-13 on the year, while the Rams drop to 12-12.

SMSU set single game records for points (116), margin of victory (74), field goals made (49), assists (34) and steals (29).  In addition, Andrea Fennern, Laura VanOverbeke and Aneshia Starks all set career highs for points.  Fennern scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including two three-pointers.  She added five rebounds and four assists.

VanOverbeke, a senior, saved the best game of her career for her final night in the R/A Facility.  She dropped 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting.  She also was one of four players, along with Fennern, Tori Fink and Megan Stadler, with a game-high four steals on the night.

Starks scored 10 points, all in the first half.  She also added seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Liz Grider and Heidi Kimmes rounded out the Mustangs in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively, as every SMSU player scored in the game.

The Mustangs closed the first half on a 27-0 run to take a 66-16 lead into the break.  SMSU outscored the Rams 46-6 in the paint in the first half and 28-0 on fast break points.  The Mustangs also scored 42 points off 25 NCU turnovers in the first half.

For the game, SMSU had 67 points off 41 NCU turnovers, along with 68 points in the paint, 25 second chance points and 39 fast break points.

The Mustangs close out the regular season on the road this weekend with NSIC games at Concordia-St. Paul and MSU Moorhead.
