Mustangs Trounce Golden Eagles

BISMARCK, N.D.:
The Southwest Minnesota State softball team knocked out a season-high 15 hits as it defeated Minnesota, Crookston 10-1 in six innings at the NSIC Crossover in Bismarck on Saturday

The Mustangs were held to just two hits in the first three innings, before blowing the game open in the top of the fourth inning with six runs on six hits to take a 6-0 lead.  Erin Dickhausen got SMSU on the board after leading off the fourth with a triple.  Following a walk to Amanda Burkhart, Amanda Opatz singled Dickhausen home with a base hit up the middle.  Opatz, Amanda Tucci, Kiley Petersen and Jessica Paczosa all had RBI singles in the fourth.  Meaghan Laetsch also drove in a run with a ground out and Opatz scored on a wild pitch to round out the scoring.

Southwest tacked on four more runs in the top of the sixth.  Paczosa led off the inning by getting hit by the first pitch.  Emily Theno followed with a single up the middle, before Dickhausen hit a double to right to score Paczosa.  Burkhart then drove in two runs with a single through the left side to make the score 9-0.  Alina Honken later drove in Micki Seibring with a single to center.

UMC scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Paczosa, Dickhausen, Tucci, Petersen and Honken all had two hits for SMSU.  Sara Silke earned the win, pitching three perfect innings, while striking out six.  Honken closed out the game with three solid innings of relief to earn her first career save.
