No. 13 Mustangs Finish Home Schedule with Romp of Minnesota, Crookston

MARSHALL, Minn.
- No. 13 Southwest Minnesota State checked in with a .418 hitting percentage and held the conference's individual leader in kills to just seven to pick up a 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-14) victory over Minnesota, Crookston Tuesday night in the Mustangs' final home match of the season.

SMSU improves to 23-7 (13-5 NSIC), while UMC falls to 3-24 (3-15 NSIC).

The Mustangs held UMC's Amber Meyer to just seven kills (2.33/set) and a 0.00 hitting percentage in the win. Heading into Tuesday's match, Meyer was leading the NSIC in kills per set with 4.13.

Devin Diedrich keyed the blistering offensive attack for SMSU as the sophomore had a match-high 16 kills.  She swung 25 times without an error to post a season-high .640 hitting percentage.  Mary Groth had 13 kills and an equally impressive .550 hitting percentage.

Sara Graf, playing her last match in SMSU's P.E. Gym, said goodbye to her home facility in style, dishing out a match-high 33 assists to go along with four kills, two service aces and 10 digs.  Crissi Schewe joined Graf in double-figure digs with 12.

SMSU used runs of 6-0, 5-0, 7-0 and 3-0 in the opening set to break away for a 25-9 set victory.

Hot hitting kick started by the Mustangs early continued in the second set as SMSU smashed 16 kills to cruise to a nine-point set victory.  More of the same in the third and final set paired with a 10-0 surge midway through was good enough for a 25-14 set victory to close the match.

SMSU aced seven serves on the evening and held the Golden Eagles to a .073 hitting percentage.

Meyer's seven kills and Jaclyn Slepicka's 12 digs led UMC.

The senior trio of Graf, Leah Ashburn and Tory Brouwer stepped onto the court for the last time; the three were recognized prior to the match.

SMSU travels to Mary and Northern State this weekend to close regular season play.
