This Week: The 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion and 12th ranked Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team (26-5) makes its second ever appearance in the NCAA II tournament this weekend when it competes in the NCAA II Central Region Tournament in Marshall. SMSU, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, will open play against conference rival and No. 8 seed Northern State University (19-10) on Saturday, March 14, with tip-off slated for 6 p.m. at the R/A Facility.
It will be the third straight game for SMSU versus NSU in the last two weeks with each team winning once. SMSU earned a 66-51 victory on Feb. 28 to close out the regular season, before NSU earned revenge in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament on March 4, with a 72-63 victory. The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the regional semifinals on Sunday night versus the winner of Minnesota State, Mankato and Ft. Lewis.
