SMSU to Take on Winona State, Upper Iowa in Final Regular Season Road Trip

Setting the Scene: The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team (1-9-2, 0-7-2 NSIC) will travel to Winona State (10-3-1, 7-1-0 NSIC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. , and then to Upper Iowa (7-6-1, 3-5-1 NSIC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Sizing up the competition: Currently tied for third with Minnesota State, Winona State has just one Northern Sun Intercollegiate loss on the season (Bemidji State, 3-2). The Warriors have scored 23 goals on the season while allowing their opponents just eight. Jennifer Deroo leads Winona State with six goals and an assist, followed by Melissa Sellier with four goals and five assists.
 
Upper Iowa is currently ranked tenth in the NSIC with three conference wins. Goalie, Amanda Smith leads the team with 75 saves on the season and is averaging 5.21 saves a game. Liz Kaluzinski has nine goals on the season for the Peacocks along with two assists.
 
For the Record: Winona State has swept SMSU since the teams' first meeting in 1996 when the Warriors defeated the Mustangs, 7-1. Since then, the two teams have met 23 times resulting in a total of 22 Warrior wins and two tied games. Upper Iowa and SMSU have played each other five times with Upper Iowa winning all but one match-up.
 
Last time out: SMSU dropped two close competitions last weekend with MSU Moorhead shut out the Mustangs in a 1-0 decision on Saturday and Minnesota, Crookston defeated SMSU 2-1 on Sunday. SMSU took 56 shots on the weekend, but only one of Brittany Oehlerking's shots found the back of the net on Sunday. MSU Moorhed and Minnesota, Crookston took a combined 22 shots against the Mustangs.
 
Senior Experience: SMSU has plenty of leadership experience this season with six seniors on the roster including goalie, Kendra Olechefske (Albert Lea, Minn.), Tatum Borstad(Coppell, Tex.), Jenna Perske (Sartell, Minn.), Kate Voigt (Hudson, Wis.), and Liz Judkins (Bemidji, Minn.). This group of seniors has charted three-year overall record of 8-41-4.
