MARSHALL, Minn. - No. 9 Minnesota State rallied from a 15-11 deficit and won the dual's final three bouts to top Southwest Minnesota State 22-15 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
MSU moves to 9-4 (4-3 NSIC), while SMSU falls to 4-6 (1-6 NSIC).
The contest wrapped up the regular season for both teams.
After dropping the 125-pound contest, SMSU held a 6-4 lead after the 141-pound bout. #A.J. Jenniges
and Brandan Schunk# both picked up wins by decision at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.
MSU charted victories at 149 and 157 pounds to retake the lead before 165-pounder
Trent Molacek allowed the Mustangs to move ahead again when notched a win by default at 165 pounds to give SMSU a 12-11 advantage.
William Fate pushed the SMSU lead to 15-11 when he knocked of Ben Becker, who is ranked No. 5 in the latest national poll, at 174 pounds.
The Mavericks, however, effectively silenced SMSU's upset bid by pulling out wins in the dual's final two bouts.
The Mustangs now move to postseason action, wrestling at the Super Region Three Tournament in Aberdeen, S.D., next Sunday.
