BOX SCORE

MARSHALL, Minn.
Megan Stadler set a Southwest Minnesota State single-game record with 14 assists to lead her Mustangs to a 93-67 win over Minnesota, Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Saturday night in Marshall.

SMSU moves to 14-8 (8-7 NSIC), while UMC drops to 8-13 (6-9 NSIC).

Stadler passed the previous single-game record of 12 assists, which was set by Darcy Peterka on Feb. 17, 1992 against Minnesota Duluth. The senior was just one point shy of registering her first career double-double as she also finished with nine points.

Tori Fink led the Mustangs with a game-high 21 points. Abby Kenealy also reached double figures with 19 points, while Taylor Voss poured in 14 and hit four 3-pointers.

It was also a career night for Lucia Puchelova, who netted 14 points.

SMSU also established season highs in points scored with 93, 3-pointers with 13 and 3-point field goal percentage with 61.9 percent.

The Mustangs, who lost to the Golden Eagles earlier this season, started the contest by hitting their first seven 3-pointers. The long-range shooting performance keyed an almost immediate double-figure lead for SMSU. The Mustangs led by 11 just seven minutes in.

The Mustangs took their largest lead of the first half—42-23—after Fink connected on a 3-pointer and Miley Hunziker pulled up from 10 feet on a fast break and drained her shot with 4:07 left before the break.

Puchelova's nine first-half points led the Mustangs, who shot 45.7 percent from the floor. Kenealy, Fink and Voss each checked in with eight points for SMSU.

The advantage only grew for the Mustangs in the second half. SMSU took its largest lead of the game with 7:19 left when Kenealy sank a jumper to put her squad up 86-52.

Stadler handed out her record-breaking assist with 5:17 remaining, feeding fellow guard Fink at the top of the key for a wide-open 3-pointer.

SMSU scored 48 points in the second, tying a season high for output in a half.

For the Mustangs, the win snapped a four-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles.

SMSU committed just eight turnovers for the second consecutive game—tying a season low.  The Mustangs scored 27 fast-break points and turned UMC's 12 turnovers into 19 points.

The Mustangs also notched their 10th home win of the season, giving them the most home wins since the 2004-05 season when SMSU went 10-4 at the R/A Facility.

SMSU is on the road next weekend, traveling to St. Cloud State and Concordia University, St. Paul.
