MARSHALL, Minn. - Jacob Williams scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 42-38 victory over Edinboro (Pa.) Saturday in the fifth place game of the 2010 National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament in Marshall.
SMSU finishes the two-day tournament with a 2-1 record.
Kyle Timmerman added 11 points and seven rebounds, while
Nathan Carruth chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds to lead the Mustang attack.
The Mustang defense was outstanding all game long, limiting the Fighting Scots to 32.1 percent shooting.
SMSU held a 20-17 halftime lead and took its largest lead of the game at 39-32 with six minutes left in the game before EU rallied to trim the lead to 39-38 with two minutes left in the contest. Williams then came up with the biggest field goal of the game, drilling a basket with 1:30 on the clock to end the 6-0 run by Edinboro. Williams then hit a free throw with 18 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Tommie Gray led Edinboro with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
SMSU ends the season with a 4-13 overall record.
