ST. PAUL, Minn. - Three Southwest Minnesota State University baseball players have been named to the 2010 Daktronics All-Central Region team as voted upon by the region's sports information directors. Junior designated hitter
Cody Curry was named first team, while senior pitcher
Adam Schrader and senior third baseman
Matt Bauer were both named second team. It's the second straight season SMSU has had three players earn Daktronics All-Region honors.
Curry will now move to the national ballot for a chance to earn All-America accolades.
Curry, a native of Alexandria, Minn., batted a team-high .424 and finished second on the team in doubles (15) and third in base hits (61). A second team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honoree, Curry also finished with three home runs, one triple and 26 RBIs. In NSIC play, Curry finished second in batting average (.462), third in on-base percentage (.540) and fifth in doubles (15).
Schrader, a native of Easton, Minn., earnes second team Daktronics All-Region for the second straight season. Schrader finished with a 5-4 record, with a team-low 3.28 ERA in a team-leading 74 innings pitched. A first team All-NSIC selection this season as well as SMSU's Pitcher of the Year, he led the team with 12 starts, while recording a team-high 62 strikeouts and tossing three complete games, including two shutouts. Schrader ended his career as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts (244) and games started (48), while finishing second in innings pitched (262.2).
Bauer, a native of Tracy, Minn., finished the season batting .362 with 10 doubles and seven home runs and finished second on the team in both base hits (64)?and RBIs (42). Bauer finished his career with a .378 batting average, ranking third in school history, while his .640 slugging percentage ranks sixth all-time.
Southwest Minnesota State University is a member of NCAA Division II and is located in Marshall, Minn. SMSU finished the 2010 season 29-18 overall, including 22-10 in the NSIC, tying for fourth place in the standings. The 29 victories is the fifth highest in school history. The Mustangs advanced to the championship game of the NSIC tournament before losing to Minnesota State 6-5.
Southwest Minnesota State, located in Marshall, Minn., is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
