MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team opened its season on Sunday with two wins over the Minnesota Rolling Timberwolves. The Mustangs defeated the Timberwolves 53-37 in the first game, before picking up a 71-39 win in game two.
Jake Williams and
Derek Klinkner led the Mustangs offense in the first game. Williams led all players with 22 points and Klinkner picked up a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
Freshman
Raymone Brown added four points and eight rebounds in the first game. Former Mustang
Rob Wilhelm led the Timberwolves with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Williams poured it on in the second game picking up 31 points on 13 of 26 shooting.
Savoy Brown got in on the scoring mix in game two picking up a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. It was a tight game through the first half, with SMSU leading 31-24 going into the break. The Mustangs outscored the Timberwolves 40-15 in the second half going on to a 71-39 win.
Klinkner and
David Nelson each added eight points in game two and
Raymone Brown added seven points and seven boards.
Southwest Minnesota State will continue play on Nov. 18 at the Turkey Shootout in Salt Lake City, Utah.
