SALT LAKE CITY – The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team closed out its trip to Salt Lake City with three victories on Saturday.
SMSU defeated the Las Vegas Bandits 56-40, the Los Angeles Clippers 64-37 and the Bandits again 62-42.
SMSU finished the weekend 3-2 and is now 5-2 overall.
In the first victory over Las Vegas, which features several former Mustang standouts, Jake Williams was outstanding, pouring in a game-high 33 points on 14 of 23 shooting. He also recorded 12 rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Savoy Brown chipped in with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
In the win over the Clippers, SMSU stormed to a 32-17 halftime lead and never looked back. Williams once again paced the Mustang offense with 38 points connecting on 16 of 26 field goals including two 3-pointers.
Brown added eight points and 12 rebounds, while
Kyle Timmerman scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.
In the weekend's final game, Timmerman recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 13 rebounds, while
Derek Klinkner had a strong game with 13 rebounds and five points.
Williams (14) and Brown (10) rounded out SMSU's double-figure scorers.
SMSU returns to action Dec. 2-3 with four games in Columbia, Mo.
